Providence – Pt 1 by rendyk7

Sunday night, the core group was able to get together for a great time of community and discussion. We were able to talk about how God had created the universe for His glory, had chosen a special people, and how he has providentially set forth His plan for redeeming man. The discussion was so encouraging because we saw God actively pursuing man, and His solution for our problem.

God was not surprised by man’s choice to rebel.  In Acts 2, we see that before the foundation of the world, Jesus was given up to the hands of lawless men. The greatest way to show God’s providential hand was in the death of His own Son. Through God, we now have a way to God.

We are on a back-to-orthodoxy movement.  This movement has given us purpose which is reflected in our church name.  During the core group meeting, I launched the church name.   We will be called Sola Community church.  The name Sola reflects the “five solas,” which are five Latin phrases that emerged during the Reformation and characterized the Reformers’ basic theological beliefs.  The name also reflects that the “church alone” is the only institution which Christ established to nurture the work of the gospel by means of the Spirit.

During our past trip to Denver, it was awesome to be surrounded by men who have a burden for the gospel.  Two men who are committed to the core group, not only have the willingness to teach, but are implementing that ability where there is need.  It was awesome to see their desire to meet the needs of friends and acquaintances by starting a bible study group.  This group’s purpose is not to build the church or church plant, but to meet the needs of people who need to be challenged in the Scripture more.  If only others would be discussing the gospel with friends to determine needs.  We live in a world that is starving for truth and the truth of that reality is that we could be the ones to share what they are looking for.  Don’t wait for the church to extend the gospel, the mission is ours!

Those who are interested in Plant Denver are invited to come and be part of our initial meetings as we gather a core group.  We will meet on Sunday, December 6th at 5pm.  Littleton Bible Chapel has graciously allowed us to meet at their church.  There will be childcare, so everyone come.  This initial meeting is designed to meet others interested in church planting, pray for church planting, and study the Scriptures together.

In hopes of moving to Denver early next year, we put our house on the market in October.  To our surprise, the house sold in less than two weeks and we were forced to find a new place to live until we moved to Denver.  At first it was overwhelming to imagine having to move at the end of October, especially since we each had a trip planned in October.  Melody and the girls went to Georgia to visit her family for a week, while I went to Colorado on a survey trip.

We knew this is what we had prayed for, so we better get on board with God’s plan and move.  In the past year, God had placed a couple from Delaware into our lives who had bought a house and piece of farm property outside of Lexington.  They have not been able to move to this house yet, which allowed for an invitation for Melody and I to move into their fully furnished house and store our belongings in their garage.  The house is in the midst of beautiful horse farms in Paris, Kentucky.  Although this has extended our drive time into Lexington by 30-40 minutes, the views are spectacular and the environment is just what our family needs before moving to the city.
